Will Small Smartphones Ever Return?

Currently I’m using the standard sized Pixel 3a and I think it’s huge, which is funny because it’s very far from being the largest smartphone available, and I’m not even referring to all the folding phones that are hitting the market these days. Before my Pixel 3a I had a phone that I loved to hate. The iPhone SE. While I wasn’t a fan of iOS, or Apple in general for that matter I was very much so a fan of my iPhone SE. It was, speedy, durable, and most important of all was the fact that I could use it with one hand!

As time progressives it seems we drift closer and closer towards everyone carrying around a little tablet in their pockets all the time. While I can understand a certain level of value in this idea I can’t help but complain about it. Sure the extra screen real estate can be nice when viewing content like videos or photos, but if you’re sacrificing the comfort and ease of using a phone one handed, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it at all. Small phones can often offer you a great experience while being incredibly easy to place in your pocket.

I can’t be sure that smartphones with smaller footprints will stick around forever but I can at least point out that they’re still important, even today. Look at the iPhone Mini, along with the Pixel 5, these are some of the smallest phones available, however ironically even…
