It seems that climate change is slowly becoming a larger and larger topic each and every day. Which in a weird way is a good thing, at least from an exposure point of view. But just because it’s starting to take over headlines doesn’t mean that the major populations are mobilizing or that they even care about it. So let’s talk about why both you and I should not only be talking about climate change, but ultimately, we need to care about it!

The Cost

When it comes to climate change, we’re all going to be paying the price for it. As a matter of fact, we already have. Whether we’re talking about our taxpayer money being spent on repairing damaged infrastructure from devastating storm fronts and wildfires or perhaps the trillion-dollar medical expenses that are a direct cause of our addiction to pollution. These aren’t some sort of far-off future that only your grandchildren will have to worry about, this is happening here and now. So next time you buy a bunch of plastic bottles or perhaps a gas guzzling vehicle, for starters DON’T, but also remember that you’ll be paying the price right along with everyone else.

Our Health

There’s no way around it anymore, the exhaust fumes from your gasoline powered vehicle (or even worse, diesel) is not only killing the planet but it’s realistically killing you as well. As I mentioned with the cost of climate change, the air pollution is only going to increase healthcare cost on an international level. If you think you’re safe because you have some sort of mobile air purifier with you 24/7, well get ready, because those taxes you pay and those workplace benefits are all based on communal health. So as your neighbor's health deteriorates, so too does your wallet.

The Future

Even if you don’t plan on sticking around this planet long enough to experience the worst of the climate change effects, remember that your next of kin likely will. So, unless you really hate humanity that much (not going to lie, I would understand) the actions you take today are going to impact the generations to come for quite literally, ever.

Final Thoughts

As I said, it’s really awesome that climate change is no longer a question of facts or myths, it’s universal knowledge that humans are rapidly changing the climate, but we can’t stop there! Now that we all have the unanimous information, we all need to act on it! Whether you stop buying bottled water or you go out and buy an electric vehicle, each little movement towards sustainable leads to exponential growth over the long run!
