Why You Probably Don’t Need A Pickup Truck (Maybe)
I live in rural Wisconsin, where everyone and their mother prefers to drive a pickup truck, I’m not writing this article because I think the world should do away with pick up trucks entirely, but I will advocate for the fact that generally speaking, the pickup truck shouldn’t exactly be the highest selling automobile in North America year over year, here’s why.
Price
Sure prices range quite drastically, as a matter of fact one of Ford’s new pickup trucks (Ford Maverick) is one of the cheapest automobiles on the market period. That being said, most pickup trucks are outrageously expensive. I have friends and family that are willing to sink $60,000 on a pickup truck and proceed to live paycheck to paycheck. It’s pretty easy to get caught up in all the cool gadgets we can get baked into our vehicles these days, as a matter of fact I’m surprised we don’t have built in popcorn machines yet, but I digress. Purchase cost is one thing, but what about keep up? Fueling up a pickup truck isn’t ideal either, it’s far easier to get a fuel efficient sedan or even hatchback than it is to go and find a fuel efficient pickup truck (Touché again Ford Maverick with 40MPG). Why sink all this money into a vehicle that is meant for work when the majority of pickup truck owners don’t utilize it as such, which brings us to my second point.
