Why Web Browsers Are More Important Than The OS
The measly browser has come a long way over the last decade or so, not only has Chromium developed into a very competitive browser, but it’s also an entire ecosystem full of extensions, Progressive Web Apps and to be blunt, basically any website that you can access over the normal internet. If that didn’t paint a clear enough picture for all of you then let me explain to why web browsers are so important to the average computer user!
Update Cycle
Now when I mention this update cycle, I’m primarily talking about Chromium based web browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or even Opera. Thanks to the open-source nature of these pieces of software we’re able to get an incredible level of software support that far outpaces any operating system known to man. Even though MacOS, Android and Windows all get constant support throughout any given year, the fact that these web browsers are getting performance, stability and feature updates on a four-week basis is incredibly impressive. Not only are you getting new features baked into these applications over time, but I’ve seen some incredible performance gains over time as well, as a matter of fact my old computer could barely stream video appropriately, but after a few years of Chromium based updates, it was streaming 1080p video as if it was born to do so.
