Why The Windows Ecosystem Is Failing
Windows has to have one of the strangest tech stories if ever there was a leaderboard for such a thing. They launched a game changing product, only to screw it up literally multiple times during the course of it’s life cycle. Eventually settling into what seemed to be an era where every other product revamp would be bad. Followed by a good one. We’re now full swing in the era of Windows 11 and while I haven’t been able to get official support due to their stupid system requirements that took away half their market share I do generally think they’re on the right track with Windows 11 in a lot of interesting ways. So why do I think the Windows Ecosystem is failing? Let’s find out!
Mobile Last
Microsoft has tried multiple times to get Windows to work on a truly mobile device like PDAs and smartphones, all of those attempted were ultimately dumpster fire. For some reason Microsoft was never able to fully commit to a mobile first world and they suffered because of it. They lacked proper app support which was one of the strongest things to come to Windows considering you could download a program from anywhere on the internet. They also never quite knew what they wanted, did they make a smartphone with Windows duct taped to it or did they make a Windows device that also happened to be a smartphone, some would say neither of those are ideal.
