Why Smartphones Need USI Support
Smartphones and their equivalent touch-based technology have come a long way over the last decade or so. It’s hard to appreciate just how good touch screens have gotten since it was never one giant update that made them better, instead it was incremental that occurred nearly every 6 months or so in the technology sector. The reason I’m telling you why I believe touch screens are so amazing in 2022 is because I still think they suck, and they suck for one reason. They lack USI support, so let’s talk about why smartphones need USI support as we go into the future.
It’s In The Name
Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) is a technology alliance made up of both contributors and promoters that seek to develop and standardize a universal approach to stylus pens across all sorts of technology-based devices. Now that you got a quick history lesson on what USI is, you should clearly understand that in order to stay true to their literal name (UNIVERSAL Stylus Initiative) they need to start supporting smartphones. Not only does it make sense from a semantics-based point of view but just imagine how much more exposure USI would achieve if it was getting baked into smartphones the same way it’s getting adapted to Chromebooks and other tablets. Seriously, there is a demand here with a large market to boot.
