Why New Years Resolutions Are Dumb, But Still Useful
As we approach that time of year again where every gets belligerent and wakes up with high hopes and even higher ambitions (or perhaps just a hangover, no judgement here) I figured it was worth my time to write about my opinion on New Years Resolutions and why they’re ultimately dumb, but also ultimately useful. Let’s find out why.
The Dumb
The fact of the matter is, New Years really doesn’t signify a whole lot to the human body or brain. Sure culturally and socially we can call it a sign of a new chapter of our lives but really it’s just another day. I know some people will call me negative for thinking this way but it’s really true, there’s very little difference between setting a goal on January 1st versus setting a goal 6 months later. It’s just another period of 24 hours that you either use, abuse or potentially lose.
The Useful
As I mentioned before, January 1st does offer some level of culture and social shift that could be proven beneficial to people. Just signing a different date on all your documents could be just enough for your brain to really dig into the idea of a new chapter in your life. Not only does it offer you a new chapter to build into, but it also puts the previous chapter to rest. Leaving things in the past not to necessarily be forgotten, but…
