It’s true more today than it ever has been, solar is a competitively priced alternative energy source that out performs other sources over the long term. Not only are we talking about energy that takes no effort to produce after installation (for the most part) but we’re also talking about an energy source that doesn’t clog up our lungs with deadly emissions. Solar clearly has a future, but one thing that hasn’t picked up is the implementation of solar cells in more devices. Think about, millions if not billions of calculators have had solar cells keeping them alive for literal decades, yet no one hasn’t slapped one on a phone yet? What’s up with that? Let’s talk about why more devices need solar panels on them.

Trickle Charge

I’m a big battery nerd, mostly when it comes to my phone but I also think anything that last a long time is a really awesome gadget. That being said, if solar panels were integrated into my cell phone only as a method of trickle charging to extend my battery and not necessarily top me off every time I use solar, that would be an amazing feature to me. Not only will battery life start to extend as these solar cells improve in efficiency (As they have over the last several decades) but as phones become more and more efficient with their power usage we’ll eventually reach a point where you no longer have to charge your phone from…
