Why I Want To Own Nothing
Shout out to the ones who are creative (or not creative enough???) to post minimalist photos on Unsplash for all of us minimal junkies to go out there and use! Back to the article! I get a lot of flack from all sorts of people including my friends and family about my very strange drive to more or less own nothing, or at the very least, own very little. So I want to dive into some of my thought processes when I decide to either get rid of something or sell something.
Time
One of the biggest reasons I’ve shifted further and further towards minimalism over the last couple of years is simply because I find that it affords me a lot more time throughout each day, week and month. I find that by owning less things I ultimately spend less time taking care of stuff. Whether that’s literally maintenance on something like a car or computer or maybe it’s just dusting off my desk. The amount of items I have in my possession have a very clear correlation to the amount of free time I have during my day. While time was not really an issue when I was younger, considering the fact that I used to complain about being bored all the time when I was little. Now I never have enough time in the day to do all the crazy things I want to do (read: nap).
