Why I Prefer The Sub Over The Dub
Anime is starting to become more and more popular in the United States and really in any other international capacity as well. That being said, there has always been the debate about whether the sub (subtitled) or dub (dubbed over) is better. I’m here to make the claim that the dub is better nine times out of ten. Here’s why.
Original Vision
While many new anime is actually developed simultaneously when it comes to the dubbed and subbed version (That’s why it’s called simulcast in many cases). It’s important to take note that the anime we love so much is often based on a manga that is almost exclusively developed in the target language of Japanese. As the writers and artist are developing these works of arts, they are imagining Japanese voice actors playing the role, and they’re using Japanese language nuances that are simply lost when they are dubbed into English. Don’t get me wrong, unless you learn to speak native Japanese, you’ll likely never completely understand all the nuances of an anime, but you’re far more likely to feel those nuances through emotions by watching the subbed content versus watching the English dubbed. I can perhaps count to ten in Japanese if I try really hard, but I can at least tell that there is more weight on the language used in the sub over the dub.
