Why E-Bikes Are More Important Than Electric Cars
I just want to start off by saying that I don’t actually own an eBike, but instead I use my belt driven single speed to get around town for small errands from time to time. That being said I do strongly believe that eBikes are likely going to become major modes of transportation over the next few years or even next few months as production ramps up post-pandemic style. Here is why!
The Initial Cost
According to Kelly Blue Book, the average price of a brand new car or truck is very nearly $40,000. That’s a lot of money, and more often than not those are financed, so thanks to something called interest, the consumer is likely to pay a few percentage points more on top of that as well! Not let’s compare that to eBikes, starting at the lower end you can turn that bicycle in your garage into an eBike for about $200, or you could go out and by a high end eBike for a couple thousand dollars. While these aren’t the cheapest modes of transportation, since that would simply be your legs, they are substantially cheaper to buy versus the average vehicle in North America. On top of that, the majority of times that people drive their cars, are for short trips often less than 10 miles, I know for example I just picked up some lunch a few hours ago and that was probably 5 miles. So the whole “range anxiety” thing we talk about with…
