What Yu-Gi-Oh! Meant To Me!
With the passing of Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi I thought that it would be a good time to talk about what Yu-Gi-Oh! meant to me both growing up but also right now. I’ll admit, I haven’t watched a complete series outside of OG Yu-Gi-Oh! so my knowledge is severely limited but my memories about waking up early for Saturday morning cartoons remains fresh! So, let’s dig into what this anime meant to me!
Sic Parvis Magna
While I got this Latin phrase from a separate video game, I think it fits well with the story that is told within the world of duel monsters. “Greatness From Small Beginnings” is what this means, and I think that encapsulates every major character in this world. They all seem to start with little knowledge of this card game, only to become some of the world's leading experts and professional players in their own interesting and dynamic ways. Yugi and Joey are clearly some of the best duelists around while Kaiba is a techno wizard prodigy with too much money. Perhaps I went off the rails there a bit, but I think you get my point, Yu-Gi-Oh! continues to inspire entire generations to pursue not just becoming good at trading card games but to really take a step forward and become their own!
Friendship
Ok, yeah things got really cheesy on this one but seriously, I love my friends but…
