What I Want Out Of My Next Smartphone
Besides just “fast”
I’m still rocking my Pixel 3a in the year 2022, meaning I’m using a 3 year old phone yet I still have more recent software than a lot of people who buy newer phones. Take Microsoft’s Duo for example, it just recently got an update to Android 11, yet it’s still a year behind in terms of major Android versions. All that said, my phone is set to acquire Android 12L and security updates until May of this year and it will likely acquire one last sunset update since that’s what generally happens with Pixel devices. However, no matter how I look at it, I can’t help but see myself upgrading to a new device by the time 2023 rolls around. While it will likely be the Pixel 7, I want to talk about what I want out of my next smartphone in a more general sense here in this article, so let’s get started!
Battery Life
The most important smartphone metric to me has to be the battery life of our devices. I could go on about the use cases as to why battery life is so important but at the end of the day if your battery dies and therefore you can’t use your phone it doesn’t matter how many features or performance you have baked into your device because it is now a really expensive paper weight. Battery life needs to be at a minimum of 24 hours and ideally it reaches something along the lines of 72 hours. I…
