The Computing Form Factor Of The Future

The last several years have introduced a lot of really interesting things in the world of computers. We have folding smartphones, high quality gaming devices, gaming tablets even the standard smartphone and laptop are starting to get more compact and more feature rich. It’s clear that if you’re interested in computing hardware, 2022 and beyond is looking incredibly interesting. So with this article I wanted to talk about what the future of computer form factors could look like so let’s check it out!

The Handheld Gaming Machine

With the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck going all in on the handheld form factor for gaming it’s incredibly interesting to see this renaissance of portable platforms. After the demise of the Wii U and the PS Vita, I honestly didn’t expect the handheld gaming scene to continue outside of some small homebrew solutions, but here we are in 2022 and it’s going strong. I think this form factor offers a lot to those that want to game on the go but also for certain professionals. While I can’t quite see a writer taking up a Steam Valve and lugging around an additional keyboard I could see someone who relies on connectivity using the Steam Deck. While I would never want to be connected to more workplace 24/7, some people need to and so if I could get some notifications while I’m gaming that sounds awful (But…
