My Learning System Map & Narrative
Foreword: This article is based off a homework assignment
My educational path has been incredibly unorthodox, if I were to list off my previous degrees many would ask why I’m pursing a degree in educational sustainability, even my master’s degree sounds odd to many. While I can understand the confusion that the wording may inherently create, I do think there is a method to my madness in regard to learning.
I’ve always been hyper interested in things through my life, one week it was rocks and minerals, the next it was computers and smartphones. It was as if my attention span was the equivalent of a gnat. While this certainly had its downsides I eventually started to capitalize on my broad interest. I started to break down my learning methods into two ways. Generalization and specialization, I find that by studying a broad and diverse set of ideas and topics I can more easily find what I actually want to specialize in. When specializing feels stressful I can go to generalizing, and vice versa.
The best part of this “method” is when two completely different topics reference one another, this is why I labeled the picture of the mixer as “amalgamation” which means to combine/unite/mix things together.
