My Favorite Thing From CES 2022 Was a TV Remote

Ok hear me out before you click away. This is a really cool TV remote I promise. During CES 2022 Samsung announced a new TV remote for their lineup of TV’s that comes with some pretty sweet charging technology. Not only does this TV remote feature a solar cell to suck up some juice from indoor and outdoor lighting when available but it also is able to turn wild radio frequencies that aren’t of any use to anyone into power for the remote. While both technologies probably offer very little in terms of usable power, together they could really change the game when it comes to wireless charging. Let’s dig into both features just a little bit.

Solar Power Baby

Solar power is far from being a mainstream piece of technology, but it most certainly is gaining in popularity with big names like Generac and Tesla getting into the industry both from a small-scale device position but also from the housing perspective as well. With Samsung introducing a small solar cell on the back of this TV remote they’re now going to be making a pretty interesting quality of life improvement for many that use a TV. While I’m sure most TV remotes last a year if not more on a single set of batteries, it’s important to remember that of the few devices in the average household that requires non-rechargeable batteries, is indeed the TV Remote.
