How The MetaVerse Is Nothing New

Even before Facebook transformed into the newly formed Meta there was rumblings across the entire tech industry about the Metaverse and what exactly it means for the future of technology. While I’m not going to dive into the future in this article I am going to talk about how instead of slamming these organizations for introducing the MetaVerse we should instead realize that we already have the MetaVerse, and we actually have for some time, here’s how!

Interoperability

Both the MetaVerse and Crypto share the dream of interoperability across different platforms. News flash, this has already been in development for some time, it just happens that NFT’s were called Steam Items/Gifts/Achievements/Cards or any other video game pair from a major developer that cared to cross promote between universes. Looking at Fortnite and Apex Legends, it’s easy to see how these games took content from other worlds and introduced them as collectibles or items of interest in hopes of creating not just a game, but a platform that was able to meet varying degrees of needs. While interoperability between platforms is still far from perfect it’s easy to see how it is already well into development.
