Solid state drives have been around for a while now but for a very long time they remained far too expensive for the average computer user to really consider upgrading too. So, they were left to enthusiast computer users and of course the gaming crowd. In come more and more mobile gadgets and SSDs are taking the world by storm. While they are certainly infiltrating the majority of personal computing devices, they have yet to really corner the entire market still because of that pesky price, but considering CPUs and GPUs are becoming ever more demanding in terms of input, we will soon see a huge paradigm shift of computing where solid state drives will be at the forefront! Here’s why.

The Speed

While Microsoft is using similar approaches with their Xbox and Windows brand Sony really pushed this hard into the marketing of the PS5. One of their many tech demos was tailored to emphasize that with faster SSDs the computing power of the CPU and GPU will no longer be wasted on rendering areas that aren’t in the viewer's screen. Long story short, SSDs are becoming so fast that loading is quickly becoming a thing of the past. While this goes far beyond just a simple SSD upgrade, it’s an important place to start the foundation of extreme computing speeds. While our devices are getting faster every year, we’re likely going to see bigger jumps when…
