It seems like every year we’re getting better and better displays, which is really cool! From faster refresh displays to better brightness settings, it’s all around a good time to be viewing anything on a screen because the tech is just so good! But I’m here to tell you why the coolest screen technology that is being refined year over year is actually something on the outside of the screen! Bezels. Let’s check out why!

Bigger Screen, Smaller Device

You read that correctly, when comparing to devices of the past you can now get devices that have bigger screens while also minimizing their overall footprint. To a self proclaimed minimalist, that’s really awesome. As of 2021 I have a 6 year old laptop (That I love dearly) that has a 15.6" display. I could spend a fairly average amount of money and go buy myself a 17" laptop and still walk away with a smaller laptop than my old one! That’s an extra 1.4" of usable space! Now the only reason I don’t upgrade is because I’m attempting to reduce my consumerism habits, but that’s a conversation for another time. Either way, we’re reaching a really cool part with technology, for years these tech giants have been so focused on getting as much features and power baked into our devices without ever really taking into consideration the form factor of things. With folding phones and Ultrabook's becoming mainstays in the industry it’s only a matter of time before we see a laptop with an 18" display that still out performs my 15.6" laptop when it comes to size and portability, isn’t that crazy? Take the fact that with folding phones you can carry around a tablet in your pocket and it won’t seem too far off that you’ll be able to comfortably travel with a near TV sized laptop one day soon.

Weight Reduction

I thought about including this segment above, but I thought it was important to mention on its own. Laptops have generally weighed a couple of pounds for the last several years, generally not a big issue, but when you’re trying to maneuver in and out of workspaces, it certainly can be. Thanks to the development of displays with less and less space dedicated to bezels, we’re also seeing major strides in weight reduction. Look at the LG gram 17", a 17" laptop that most people can sling around with…
