Actually, you should note that there are drive-by-wire solutions that change the steering ratio based off your speed. If your argument is to keep your hands on the wheel this solution (Which could still be used on standard steering wheels, I'll admit) would allow the driver to keep their hands on the wheel 100% during a turning maneuver regardless of the angle and the speed.
