7 Benefits Of Minimalism
1. Freedom
This might feel a little “woo-woo” for some people but I genuinely find a strong sense of freedom from minimalism. I remember a long time ago seeing a meme about how we think that our electronic devices are freeing us from the awful dystopian world we live in (sarcasm) but then it just showed us huddled around outlets to charge all our connected devices or waving our hands in the air looking for signal. Now, I still have a phone and laptop. But that image is so true, we think our items are freeing us but in reality they’re just tying us down in other ways we can’t fully comprehend in the moment. Lose an item or two and you’ll slowly gain back your freedom.
2. Productivity
I think this was originally how I got into minimalism, because early on in my college career and maybe even in late high school I had this drive to accomplish more and more. I didn’t entirely understand what productivity meant at the time but I had the natural instinct to realize that everything around me was weighing down my mental clarity. While my room looks nothing like those minimalist YouTubers, it does have a “simple” aesthetic that really helps me stay focused more often than not. Whether I’m doing homework for school, making a YouTube video or writing these articles, a minimal aesthetic does help me maintain high levels of productivity.
