6 Rucking Tips

  1. Just Do it:

Yes this is incredibly cliché but I think it’s important to feel comfortable with yourself when you go ruck or when you do any workout really. You don’t need to be shredded or “in shape” to go for a ruck. On top of that you don’t need fancy equipment or gear. Grab any old backpack you have lying around and put a few tennis balls in it. Rucking is no more than walking with a backpack, if someone argues otherwise then they’re just wrong. Ultimately, try not to over complicate things, the goal is to enjoy yourself while doing it, and to feel better overall when you’re not.

2. Avoid Cement:

This is something I wish I learned earlier and looking back on it, I’m not quite sure how it didn’t click sooner. This may not apply to those who are starting out with low weights. But once you break the threshold of perhaps 30lbs I would highly advise you avoid cement as much as possible. Cement has a very important purpose in regards to our infrastructure, and that’s to stay solid and uniform regardless of the weather conditions. Fortunately for us, it does a good job at that! Unfortunately for our joints, that means we’re taking the brunt of the force every time we walk on cement. Without getting too far into the science, know that grass and dirt is way softer than cement, and that your joints vastly prefer softer surfaces.
