3 Ways To Manage Upward

There’s a lot of professional managerial advice that really suggest that you learn how to manage upward instead of simply downward. What this generally means is that by managing upward you’ll be able to influence the work of those above you, otherwise known as your boss. There are a lot of benefits to managing upward, not only will you be able to make your own work shine through just a little bit better but you’ll also simply be able to steer things in directions that you believe will be best for your organization. So without further ado, here are 3 ways to help you manage upward.

Giving Credit

If you’re interested in getting something done that you believe would have a positive impact on the workplace, try not to take any credit for it, or at least only a minimal amount and instead put those above you as the “inventor of the idea”. This could sting for some people, but try to keep in mind that if you took all the credit and looked too good, you’ll end up just looking like competition to your boss and they’ll probably not want to keep you involved in the workplace in fears of you ultimately taking their job. Now I’ll add that this takes a certain type of thick skin in order to avoid any headaches, but as long as you’re not putting in any extra hours or time to develop these changes giving your boss credit for them will very likely pay dividends in the long run, and if…
