3 Tire Technologies That Will Change Transportation
To me, tires are an incredibly strange thing to think about. Every car has them, yet they almost seem to be an after thought more often than not. Especially for the average consumer who runs all-season tires on every automobile they own. But the fact that every car has tires is what makes tire technology one of the most important technologies everyone should be keeping an eye on.
Better Fuel Economy
It’s already easy to go into your local tire department, slap on some new tires and get a few percent better gas mileage. It sounds insignificant at first but considering that these newer more fuel efficient tires could be thrown onto practically every vehicle on the road today. That offers a lot of benefits not just for the environment but also for the consumers who no longer have to shell out so much money for fuel every year. This is accomplished through multiple ways. LRL or Low Rolling Resistance is one of the primary benefits of newer tires. By lowering the rolling resistance these tires take less effort and therefore fuel in order to move. Along with LRL, tire companies are researching lighter options and tread patterns that once again contribute to fuel economy. It seems that you could very likely upgrade to new tires every few years with the same vehicle and obtain better fuel economy over time. How cool is that!?
