Uncharted was actually the first game I played on my Playstation 3 all those years back, and boy was it an adventure! I never really understood how good graphics on the Playstation 3 were until I played Drake’s Fortune, and let’s not forget my jaw hitting the floor when I booted up the sequel a few months later! Here are three things I’ve learned from my adventures with Nathan Drake!

Sic Parvis Magna

The inscription that can be found on Nathan Drake’s ring means “Greatness from small beginnings” in Latin. In a blunt way, we can interpret this as not needing to come from grandiose backgrounds or privileges in order to leave a mark on the world. No matter how small you feel today, or how low you appear to be in the grand scheme of things, keep chasing your dreams and reach that level of greatness that you desire.

Take Notes

Mentally, Pen and paper, or my personal favorite, on my phone. Nathan Drake had a dedicated journal full of all sorts of doodles and thoughts he’s had when he was either reading history textbooks or exploring the lost cities around the world. This is one of my favorite things about Nathan Drake, sure a lot of the pages we see in the journal are basically setup in order for us to continue on the video game adventure but there is also a lot of character development laced through these pages. Moral of the story is, if you want to be an expert on something or even if you just want to get a little bit better or more knowledgeable, take a couple notes. Whether it’s a random thought you had or a trigonometry equation, it could be worth the jot.

Friends In High Places

Nathan Drake is far from alone when he went on all of these adventures. From the trusted Sully to his wife Elena, and all the other amazing characters that we see in between all the crazy adventures, Drake has friends. While Nathan Drake had very minimal power trips throughout his story, his friends were always there to aid him in any way possible, even when they were just there to tell him how stupid his ideas were at the time, sometimes you just need a good friend to shoot down your dumb ideas. Long story short, surround yourself with people not just to help you reach your goals, but to be there with you to celebrate afterwards as well!

Final Thoughts

Even though a blockbuster movie is coming out soon featuring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, the actual game franchise seems to be on hiatus for the time being. Whether or not we get a chance to revisit Nathan Drake and friends again remains to be seen. But what will always remain is the impact that these video games have had on me, from my drive to explore the world to not being afraid to take chances, Uncharted is a blockbuster franchise that everyone needs to play. So, what are you waiting for?
