Even though my favorite team on the Formula 1 grid has yet to win a race so far this season I have to be really honest and say that this is one of the best seasons so far. Not only is the racing and wheel to wheel action, just so much fun to watch, but the rivalries that are popping up across the entire field are completely invigorating to watch. So before I spoil my entire article, let's get into it. These are my top three takeaways from the 2022 formula One. Hungary Grand Prix.
The Ferrari Circus Continues
Even though I’m not much of a Ferrari fan myself, I still am left completely dumbfounded each and every time that the Ferrari strategist succeed in completely destroying their top tier drivers races. Even with Carlos and Charles driving their best, with a powerful machine underneath them the way that they’re completely hampered by their pit strategy just goes to show how Mercedes and Redbull have more than the talent and equipment. They have some sort of strategic sense. As far as I’m concerned, Ferrari operations team are a joke, and Mercedes and Redbull are both laughing their way to podiums and race wins. Considered one of the fastest cars on track from various teams and drivers, it’s clear that Ferrari needs a new approach here.
Mercedes Back2Back Podiums
Last week I was writing about how Mercedes is finally starting to turn things around this season, this week I’m going to do that exact same thing! With a little bit of help from the Ferrari pitwall, both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been able to take a car that they once considered to be a “shitbox” all the way up to two races back to back that feature both of them on the podium. While a race win hasn’t yet happened for Mercedes this year, it’s clear to see that the development, tuning and the driver’s confidence surrounding the infamous W13 is really starting to take shape. Following the pole position that George was able to secure thanks to a shortcoming from Verstappen’s Redbull during qualifying it was always very clear that we were going to be getting a Mercedes driver on the podium, we just didn’t know that it was going to be both of them!
