With the Pixel Watch supposedly right around the corner and my Pixel 3a set to lose updates here pretty soon (I intend on purchasing the Pixel 6a or 7) I thought it would be important for me to discuss the things that a smartwatch would really need to deliver in order for me to purchase one. I’ve long been a critique of smartwatches as I’ve always believed that smartphones are already capable of the majority of things smartwatches are doing, on top of that reason I just really don’t want to have something extra to charge. So let’s see what I demand of a smartwatch in 2022!

All The Health Metrics

One of the best offerings that smartwatches have done when compared to smartphones is their ability to constantly monitor and collect telemetry data. When we’re talking about the heart beats of a person or their respiratory rate, smartwatches already offer some interesting health metrics. That being said I think I would really need a lot more from a future Pixel Watch if I were to pull the trigger. For starters I think one thing that we will continue to see grow onto the scene over the next couple of years is non invasive glucose monitoring considering the ever rising cases of diabetes and the desire to not only manage those with diabetes already but also to prevent it where possible, I think there will be major draws towards improving the sensing ability of our smartwatches to the point that it can closely monitor our glucose levels. On top of that, as someone who suffers from a protein deficiency I have to take medication that reduced the viscosity of my blood and if a smartwatch was able to monitor that, that could be a game charging system in terms of health care. Now of course, I don’t really expect either of these things to be announced over the next 12 months but I do believe that these should be real world goals for future smartwatches and they would certainly force me to adjust my critiques towards smartwatches!

Week Long Battery

While technology has come a long way over the last couple of years, it’s important to remember that many people are still very much so tired to a charger throughout the day. While that certainly is far from fun, the worst part is that’s the case without a smartwatch! So if…
